About the show

On February 5, the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine under the direction of Natalia Ponomarchuk will present German music of the XIX century. The program includes works by Ludwig van Beethoven and Johannes Brahms.

Brahms's First Symphony is sometimes referred to as "Beethoven's Tenth Symphony". Ludwig van Beethoven was the last Viennese classic; at the same time, he became one of the first romantic - we can see it in his "Sixth" Symphony which  will open this symphonic evening. The symphony is called "Pastoral" as the music resembles pictures of nature.

Johannes Brahms continued Beethoven's traditions. This evening's program will be complemented by his Violin Concerto - the only violin concerto in the creative heritage of the composer. Brahms's work is considered to be the most virtuoso in the genre. The Concert is dedicated to Josef Joachim, a Hungarian violinist and composer. Well   known Ukrainian violinist, Dmytro Tkachenko will perform as a soloist.

Dmytro Tkachenko was born in Kyiv. He graduated from the Petro Tchaikovsky National Academy of Music where he studied under Bohodar Kotorovych and Yaroslava Rivnyak. Dmytro continued his studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama under Yfrah Neaman. The  musician was also working with David Takeno and Krzysztof Smietana.

Natalia Ponomarchuk won recognition after winning the first prize at the Stefan Turchak National Competition of Conductors in 1998 in Kyiv. Natalia is also an award winner of the II International Prokofiev Competition held in St. Petersburg. Today she is a principal conductor of the Kyiv Chamber Orchestra of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine.
